One thing people may not know about me is I love the challenge of updating spaces by incorporating old with new. I don’t have an interior design background, but my friends have frequently asked me to go with them on shopping trips to help them purchase items to freshen up their homes. I love DIY projects and truly enjoy the creative process of visualizing something in my head and seeing it come to life, so when my daughter asked me to give her room a makeover, I was pretty thrilled!

The only specifics I was given when I started this project is that her favorite colors are currently light pink and light blue and that she wanted a new bed. Since my daughter likes to change things frequently, I wanted to give her a neutral color scheme so that if she wants to change the look of her room later, it can easily be done by refreshing the accessories in her room, rather than making major changes, like repainting or replacing furniture.

My goal was to create a warm, cozy, and more grown up space, that is functional and organized, that she can relax in. I added touches of blush and light blue in her room using throw pillows and wall art.

Her favorite part of the room makeover is the bed. Her old twin sleigh bed was replaced with a new daybed that converts into a king size bed! There are drawers underneath the bed that give her extra storage space for throw pillows, blankets, and her pup’s belongings.

I kept her makeup vanity and old dresser, and tied all the new and old furniture pieces together using a little gold spray paint on the hardware so that everything matched.

The new desk in her room is actually a DIY. I bought a new filing cabinet and incorporated it with an old tabletop, a custom desk leg that was built using scrap wood, added some trim, and painted the desk for a custom look.

She loves soccer and music so I made space for her medals to be displayed on this DIY hanger. I reused the letterboard from her room and added new artwork above the keyboard that tied in with the rest of her room.

Her closet also got a little facelift using open storage that was previously used in her room as wall shelves. Now she has a place for all her clothes, shoes, and accessories.
I’m so in love with the way everything turned out! My daughter’s room feels so fresh and clean and ended up being the perfect transition to a teen room for her!
